I recently came across a forum the other day and one of the topics caught my eye. It was titled “Irving Bible Church caves to Woman Pastor issue!”. The author of the thread took IBC to task for having the audacity to set aside several thousand years of social and cultural influence (ummmm . . . that would be man made social and cultural influences) and consider what the Bible says about the role of women in leadership positions in church.
The author provides a link to the IBC website but cautions the reader to only take a look “if you have a high puke tolerance”
Click HERE to visit the IBC website mentioned. Check out the various tabs at the top of the page to take you to several more articles on this subject. Most importantly - in the column on the right hand side there is a link to download a PDF called “Women and Ministry at IBC”. There is also a list of several books that the IBC Elder Board and other IBC leaders studied during their 18-month journey as the considered the role of women in ministry.
When you’ve finished those resources (especially the PDF and the books) let them digest for awhile and spend some time (I suggest at least 18-months) prayerfully considering what you’ve read and THEN feel free to leave a comment or two. Hopefully, your high puke tolerance will enable you to make your way thru without perishing due to dehydration and malnutrition.
I'm looking forward to hearing from many of you around January of 2010 - see you then!
Ok...so it hasn't been 18 months but I went to the IBC website and read the post. I guess I don't understand why someone is so upset by this. I remember women teaching me in Sunday School, in charge of the nursery, leading the choir, singing solos, cooking meals...is this the only thing they are allowed to do in this persons mind?
Anyway, good for IBC in expanding their 'social and cultural influences.'
